Do you see a critical and lamenting person looking at you? Or do you see a loving and compassionate ’You’ in your eyes? Okay, so you say, you don’t see either of them. Every morning you brush your teeth, men shave their beard while women put on their make-up, get ready …… do all of that while standing at the mirror! But do you know that you do all of that without ever really Seeing Yourself!!?

When I first started doing Affirmations about 3 years ago, I heard of a powerful technique of doing them in front of a mirror. Phewww…..the mere thought of talking to myself in front of the mirror used to freak me out.
“You look awful.” “You stink”. You don’t know how to dress up.” These are the voices I used to hear! Popping out of everywhere when I would look myself in a mirror.
“How could a person who as a child was bombarded with criticism most of the time, muster the courage to see anything good about herself in the mirror?” said my course instructor at my certification course on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
There ………my tryst with ‘look within’ began.
Looking into my eyes in front of a mirror I began talking to myself. Yeah…it looked funny, sounded weird, and felt scary too!!
“I love you. I really really love you.” Saying these two lines were the most difficult than anything else. Why? Why is it so difficult for us to say that we love ourselves?
Although as a child, we all do talk to ourselves…in our minds, saying it aloud…well…some do it in front of the mirror. Only those who knew this secret…like all the successful speakers, leaders like Winston Churchill, Einstein did mirror work as a part of their habits!
What was their secret? What did these people discover so powerful about this technique?
Well, they would talk to that ‘child’ inside.
Did you know there is a 3 year old child within each one of us?
I began to talk to this child within me every single day, nourishing this child, telling her how wonderful and capable and magnificent she is.
Within 3 months of doing my affirmations in front of the mirror, I began to feel different about myself. It was miraculous!!!
I remember, around the same time, my ex- trainees organised a get-together and hesitatingly invited me, knowing how busy I used to be with work and only work.
To their surprise I quickly agreed to join them and was actually pleased to be invited there….And the moment I reached I was floored with compliments … “Oh My God Preiti you look 10 years younger than how you used to look last year.” “Preiti what have you been doing? You are glowing!”
I knew within what was working for me …for the first time in my life I felt connected ! Connected to my Inner Self, to my Being , to the very Source within me!! I knew that I had found a treasure after all!
But today, to my trainees and coachees this doesn’t seem like a treasure when at first I share it with them. For all they see it as a fathomless funny exercise.
I witnessed the sheer amount of pain he had to go through when I handed the mirror to one of my coachees in a session and have him say “I love you and accept you exactly as you are.”
For 5-6 consecutive times he couldn’t go beyond “I love….” …..” I love….” And he’d put the mirror away after that.
That 3 year old child within him was so angry and resentful that all these years he had not given that child all the love the child deserves. How could he expect the child to accept love from him so easily now.
However with support and persistence he was able to express love at least 2-3 times in the session. This was an excellent beginning!!
With regular practice of doing Mirror Work at home he began feeling from being uncomfortable to feeling lighter and at ease with himself and others too, both at home and work.

Here’s the thing…When we look deep into our eyes and say our Affirmations, then these merely do not remain as words, coz then feelings are generated. And research has shown long ago that it is ‘feelings’ that are a powerful force that carries energy and thus vibration. These vibrations then go into the Universe and attract the similar vibrations to you. This is how you manifest anything you affirm!
Brhadaranyaka Upanishad of the 1.4.10 of the Yajur Veda says ‘Aham Brahamsi’ which means ‘I am the creator’ . This mahavakya or great saying is the basis of Law of Attraction. Where ‘I’ means the Self. You have the power to create anything you want.
But for that you will have face the mirror!
What would you want to create for yourself?
Are you ready to do your affirmations by looking yourself in the mirror?
What is holding you from facing ‘Yourself’ in the mirror?
I welcome your feedback and comments. Please continue to share your experiences.

Hello Preiti,
Yes, it is very difficult to adore the child inside. Even I tried to do so, it was really hard to do so…. though it did not take longer to say, but I was unable to say in the one go, tears came out.
I really appreciate that you are being a medium to make people meet themself.
May angels be with you in your mission.
Blessed Be

Thanks Joggaa for sharing your experience. So you are amongst those who know already the miraculous effects of this technique. I encourage you to continue doing the Mirror Affirmations for as long as you can!
Thanks for the encouragement and your wishes too.
Sure Preiti, I will continue doing it, because I think it is the best technique for being honest to oneself and even program the subconscious mind.
Interesting read & concept………..what if you are at peace with yourself
& just want to figure out the purpose of life, do you have any pointers on this?

Thanks Sid for your comments.I’m glad you find it interesting.
Well, we all are a being of Light. And we all will merge in Light one day. We (read as Soul) incarnate in human form to fulfill our respective soul agendas. Once we have learnt our lessons we move on to the next ones…. so on towards the higher vibrations until we merge with the Divine, whether it takes one birth or many. The purpose of our life is therefore Self-Realisation…. moving from the gross to the subtle to the Divine whilst doing the karmas as long as we are in this body!
From my comments I meant that I have heard and read a lot of things some how they all sound the same & often the preacher always has a self interest at core but somehow your forum seems to be selfless & the Concept of adoring the child inside oneself is very unique.
I still do have some questions none the less
What is the Agenda? & what are these lessons?? Are they the same for everyone? Is there any way to expedite the learning for these lessons & self-realizations?
Looking for some simple answers for tough questions
Dear Sid,
These are a few soul-searching questions and since it requires one to look within, it tends to become rather difficult for the mundane.
Let me see if I can do justice in answering even a bit of what you are looking for.
Just as we as kids go to school to study….And while each class/standard has its lessons which are more or less the same for every student. However, why is that each student scores differently?…few excel and take up the first rank and so on …Well that is because each student studies differently according to their personal aspirations and could be other reasons too. Because they have set their own agenda as to why they have taken up a particular subject (e.g. arts/commerce/sciences).
Similarly, the agenda of the soul is something only that soul knows! …and no other soul can tell. Even if others try to decipher another soul’s agenda, it is on a human level contaminated with personal judgements.
And the lessons are broadly the same for everyone – Forgiveness, Self-love, Compassion, Humility, Unconditional Love, Gratitude. However the path to learn may be different for each soul and that is where the Law of Karma comes, which eventually decides the time we take to learn these lessons as souls!
Feel free to write to me @ preiti.juuneja@gmail.com and I will be happy to discuss more with you.
Love and Light to you!
Dear Preiti,
You offer a new and refreshing perspective to something people may or may not have heard of before. While everyone’s experience will be different, it is important to be honest in sharing one’s experience.
Thank you for sharing.
